Age UK South Staffordshire currently have the following volunteering roles on offer:
Children Matter Learning Together Project
We require volunteers over the age of 50 to help out in local primary schools listening to children read. The volunteers do not have to live in Staffordshire but the schools they help in do need to be. We pay travel expenses, provide support and also training in ‘Supporting Struggling Readers’ to assist them in their role. We also hold termly networking events that the volunteers are welcome to attend. Potential volunteers are required to attend an informal interview with our team, provide two character references and complete a DBS check before starting in school.
We require volunteers within an 8 mile radius of Penkridge to assist on our Information and Advice telephone Helpline. The role involves answering telephone enquiries and taking referrals over the phone one day per week.
The Helpline which is based in Penkridge, also requires volunteers in the South Staffs area to visit people in their homes to complete Attendance Allowance forms. The role ideally needs someone who has access to their own transport. Travel expenses will be paid.
We require volunteers to help out in our day centre Orton Meadows in Wombourne. This is a day centre for people living with dementia or who have other complex needs. Volunteers can help in different areas such as gardening, helping with crafts, serving tea/coffee, singing and we also need a piano player as we have recently acquired a piano for the centre.
Our colleague Amanda Bancroft has also requested volunteers for the Care Navigation service, which provides befriending volunteers. They are looking for volunteers in the following areas:
- Claverley including Pattingham
- Wheaton Aston
- Gravel Hill
